When I started this quarter I knew nothing about computer modeling and I improved a lot. The first thing we did was a short animation, which I thought was really fun since I had only ever done 2d animation before. I didn't know how 3d animation worked and I learned that you only have to put in key frames and it fills in the frames in between, which made it a lot less tedious than drawing in every one which is what I'm used to. The rest of the quarter we had projects that progressively used more of the software. We didn't mess with modifiers for the first few assignments and mainly focused on making objects and moving them around. But once we started using modifiers it really showed how much you can do with the simple primitives, especially the tank and plane projects since we could only use one primitive to start. Then we learned how to merge different models into one scene which is really helpful because then I can focus on one model at a time and also not overwhelm the system. Overall, this quarter was a lot of fun and I learned so much that I'm excited to use for future personal projects.

The main thing I focused on was the snowman and the glass since they were going to be the most interesting part. I wanted to make the snowman look like he was poisoned by something, so I made the wine glass look like it had been dropped when the snowman fell to the floor. The table had to be in the middle because the scene happened around it, and I placed the flowers around it to look like they were discussing something. I used bouillon for the window and symmetry for the table. I learned how to add liquid and I wanted to use it for a few previous models so if I have time I want to go back and add it. This was a fun project and it crystallized what I learned over the course of quarter 1.
I started out by making separate files for flowers and mushrooms and using different techniques to create them. I learned how to merge files and create a single scene with them. Forming the landscape and placing everything down on it was easy, I'd say the hardest part was making the flowers, specifically the petals on the light pink one.
I started this project by following a tutorial that had me start with a box, but I ultimately ended up doing my own thing and making a plane from a cylinder. It was fun to mess around and experiment with adding new lines and vertices. I learned lots of things about 3ds Max, like the symmetry tool and connecting lines.
In this exercise I learned how to manipulate shape into other shapes. I liked figuring out how to make the shapes I want and the easiest part was learning what things do but actually getting them to do what I wanted was hard. What I learned here will be very helpful for future projects because I will be able to change the shapes of things after I've created them.
